Hands off of Christiania, Sweden!Tainted Thoughts is not affiliated with Christiania in anyway. I'm merely a fan of the city and I support the legalization of cannabis, in all forms. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
August 30 2003 Christiania Photos From Pre-Demonstration
The map above shows the layout of Copenhagen city and where Christiania lies within the city.
From the central trainstation you can simply walk out front to the bus stop and take the #66 bus directly to Christiania. The bus will go directly from the station and on a route over the bridge to the island of Christianhavn. After you've crossed the bridge, it's only maybe 4 more stops until the bus will announce "Christiania". Just get off with all the youth and hippies and follow them down the shady alleys and follow your nose to find pusher street. You cannot miss the smell of hashish in the air, so you won't get lost.
You can also walk from the central station and it takes approximately 45 minutes to get to the free city this way. When you see a giant spiral ontop of a church you know you are in the right area. The top of the church is visible from the bridge. Just look around for mad graffiti on all the walls near the church and posters for music events and concerts and you will know you are in the right area. Just ask someone for "pusher street" and they will gladly point you in the right direction. You don't need to worry about asking for help; everyone in the area has a very tolerant mind towards cannabis, whether they use it or not.
Welcome to Christiania, how may I help you:

i just got back from my first visit. i went just to look and see what it was all about. Im an American female and I went alone. Pot was being sold openly and orderly. I didnt feel threatened being there alone as a woman.
some of the people looked very strung out ....others just looked like they were hangin out or going about their business.

i dont know how the things were happening in christiania before, but we were there yesterday and we couldnt see any police occupation or couldnt notice. and we could buy staffs easily from the open stores. it was amazing cuz it was a pacefull place, with a exotic art, like Tim Burton's movies. We really just can say that it was the most amazing night of ours life. You can have more information with this guide http://www.christiania.org/inc/guide/?lan=gb.
We just hope that this place still exist in the future so our children could visit it.

I go there like everyday.. I live like 20mins from Christiania. haha
lucky bastard!
Well, hopefully if you come back to check on this item you could answer something I've been wondering about now...
I haven't been to
Christiania in many years... Ever since the police occupation began I've only been there maybe two or three times. Plus, after hearing they were tearing down most of the city and its art, I felt like I didn't want to see it in such a sad state of affairs.
Anyhow, what I wonder is, is it in any way still recognizable to the
Christiania from years ago? What I mean is, are all the paintings on the walls still there? Is hash sold openly at all anymore? The last few times I went there, hash was not sold openly, but whispered by dealers who would just quietly say "hash" as you walked by. Is this the same?
I'm really curious how it is today...
