I find it rather ironic in a way how quickly society has completely flip-flopped with it's perspective to cyberspace. When I first was online (oh say, 15 years ago) the Internet was nothing like it is today, and likewise, the position our world took towards cyberspace was completely different as well. It used to be that mothers feared their children's involvement with computers because it was something so few understood and even fewer realized the potential of. It used to be that (even when this community was starting up) people who spent their lives on Internet communities were considered anti-social. Today, we just call these site's "social-networking".
My oh my, has the world really changed as a direct result of the Internet.
Which brings me to my topic: what did you used to do before the Internet was an integral part of your life? Did you ride a bike, play in the park, hang out with friends, steal candy from fat kids or just masturbate to your own imagination?
What did you used to do to "kill time" before the Internet took over your life, and how would you see your life today if it wasn't a part of it? --- "What did you do before the ...et?" has been viewed times ---

| | Hmm.. well 15 years ago I was 10. So.. I guess I was out playing with my friends. Hiking and wrestling in the grass and just being a kid. My earliest memories of online chat/games would be BBS door games. Such as tradewars, barney splatt, assassin, and legend of the red dragon. Mudding was all the rage then. Im glad I dont have to hear the dialup connection sound ever again.. it still haunts me to this day.~~~~~~~~~~ "Soft as faded memory, each night I hear her call to me, of love and pain, deep regret, in hope of dreams, that may forget." ~J. | | Well, for me the internet was good and I only now noticed that thanks to you. Man, 15 years ago all I did was mix pills with absint, tequila or whisky and get drunk almost daily...

| | before i got the internettt..uh. i had a ton of friends, so every weekend i was having sleepovers, or i was at a sleepover. when i came home from school i went outside and played, rode bikes, hung out around the neighborhood, swam, read books, etc. i was never one for tv though.
nothings really changed though. i have more friends now then i did back then. i go out on the weekends and party it up and i end up staying somewhere. i still spend time outside walking around. i swim, read books, and just chill out.
i AM, however, lacking the amazing tan i rocked when i was a kid. now i work during daylight hours, so i don't have as much time to be outside soaking up sun.~~~~~~~~~~ i want. i love. i need. i breath. i lust. i trust. i cheat. i bleed.

| | Let me see, I think I was around 8 when the internet hit, then the dot com boom came around when I was in my young teens. What did I used to do? Watch Beast Warriors on WB. I used to watch wrestling back in the day with DX, back when China wrestled. hmm, I used to spend alot more time fighting with my family that's for sure...

I used to just read and watch tv before it took over my life, i hated all the other kids who lived by or knew, so i stayed in hateing the world and praying one all my planning would come to fruition and i would rule this forsaked hunk of shit~~~~~~~~~~ 'ug' from the Profound sayings of Lord Nemo Metis

| | I used to go on the internet when I was around 9 years old. I used to play neopets since it was the cool things to do at the time. Before the internet came into my life, I used to watch tv all the time. I was pretty much your average couch potato, but in child lazy form. Later on about 5 years later, a new school was built and all my friends went there, and I wasn't about to make new ones. So the internet was my scapegoat for the real world. ^^~~~~~~~~~~ I Am Denial, Guilt And Fear

| | i only got the internet when i was around 18ish. It was after high school finished and i basically didn't know or like anyone in the town i lived in. that was around 2000. before that i watched tv a lot but i also went outside a lot more. once i got the net i never left the house. i think back in 2001/2002 i didn't step outside for almost 2 months. it was around the same time that i was getting into posting on this site and a few others. I was being a lot more social after the net. then before i had it. I met local people online then met up with them at shows and whatnot. If it wasn't for Metal community's online i wouldn't know anyone i know now. Id probably still be living in that shitty French town too.
but after 6 or 7 years the internet has become very boring and unexciting. if it wasnt to keep in touch with people. (i dont own or ever will own a cell phone. and i hate calling people with my home phone) i dont think id even really need the net any more. I think i could do without it.
