So, who plays? Who has played? Who enjoys it? What do you enjoy about it?

This guy does.
I enjoy it because of the mental stimulation and the real time character development and how choices effect the game play. I enjoy it because it is mental and social exercise, and because I think too many people absent mindedly watch TV far too often simply to give themselves a break from thinking.

Hahaha I love this movie. I saw it ages ago, but I'll post it here for others who haven't. Its a CG movie of characters from other games playing "D&D" together.

It can be viewed Here at Google Video.

I wish I did. Never knew anyone who played it when growing up. I probably would have had I associated myself with just slightly different people. I'm not familiar with it, but I'm guessing I'd like it.

Yeah, sometimes my friends and I would role play in a chat room which made it very nice for a few reasons. One of the reasons being that you could private IM someone and tell them information that just they notice, and it takes the whole player knowledge vs character knowledge thing out, and we would have a main window open for main game type stuff. I kind of didn't like it because we lost some part of it which is what made us like it so much, the actual interaction. yeah I really like it because people actually talk to eachother in games, unlike in everyday life where we all spend most of our time avoiding conversations and dodging "threatening" concepts and discussions. In the game world you can be who you want to be, you can really select a piece of your personality that you want to develop and play it to your hearts content.

Yeah, I like playing...

I play it.. well... played it. I havent for about a year now. I love the D&D and games like it because of the social interaction. My sessions used to be composed of Myself, my brother, cousin, and my girlfriend one night each weekend.

It was great, lots of junk food.. catching up with one another.. and just laughter and fun. Sadly.. Ive never really had a chance to actually "play" as Ive always been the one DMing the campaign. Sometimes I wonder if I'd be a very good player really..

I used to get really into it, making my own props.. like letters they would intercept from couriers, or maps and such. I remember using my lighter and all sorts of things to make the maps look more weathered.. food coloring on the parchment for blood streaked effects.

We never got totally serious about it, which made me enjoy it alot more than those who seem to think its a job, and not a game. I only wished there was a way to play it online.. (other than the MMORPG of it which sucks)

I hear there are IRC scripts for it with automated dice rolling.. that might help depending on people learning the program and patience. *shrugs*
