UK, September 19, 2007 - The British Government has backed the BBFC's decision to ban Manhunt 2 in the UK and said it won't be intervening in the appeals process between Rockstar and the classifications board - despite that fact more than 3,000 members of the public have signed a petition demanding the game's release.
On the Government's website, a petition was set up asking Ministers to restrict the BBFC's power to ban videogames and that "adults should be allowed to make their own decisions with regard to what videogames they want to play".
However, Parliament has now responded to the outcry and said: "The Government is satisfied with the BBFC's procedure and with the provisions for appeal, and will not be intervening in this process." It also goes on to say there's an upcoming review aimed at helping parents protect children from inappropriate material but that won't restrict the choice of material available to adults.
Even though Manhunt 2 is set for release in North America, it's still not clear what's going to happen in the UK. Rockstar has appealed against the BBFC's ban and there are currently some legal wranglings happening behind the scenes, which will decide whether or not it can be released with edited content.

WOW!
I had no idea that European governments were this bad.
YAY! - big moral brother is here to protect us from what it deems inappropriate!
Fuck them - they just make me want to go out of my way to get this game now, and warp my fragile little mind some more. Kudos you non-effective regulatory morons. --- "UK government decides "fuck...t 2" has been viewed times ---

| | solider of fortune. its been released in Australia now i think. they had to tone down the gore and i think they took out the dismemberment altogether. its the only thing that makes the game stick out from any other FPS though.

| | What does SoF stand for?
It's weird.. I know Manhunt 2 has been out now on Wii , but I haven't seen it anywhere in Sweden either, so I wonder if Sweden got in the righteous line.~~~~~~~~~~ The problem with the world is that the fanatics are so arrogantly sure of themselves, while the open-minded individual remains filled with doubts.

| | SoF Payback for the PS3 and Xbox 360 has been banned in Australia recently. Due to extreme violence it got a M rating in the US but they don't have that rating in Australia so it cant be released there.
