| | Although I said I thought African Americans' experience of living in America is different because of the barrier created by centuries of racism, the issues they are concerned about are the same ones other voters are worried about: the economy, employment, having a home, the quality and affordability of health care, energy costs, education, taxes, race relations, terrorism, the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, etc.
A lot of people, not just African American voters, decided that Barack Obama was a very well informed, disciplined, progressive candidate who was more in touch with their concerns than John McCain. That's my opinion why he won.
Peace,

Do you honestly believe that the black people who voted for obama were looking at his knowledge of politics over the color of his skin?? I mean come on it was so obvious, and how does that help break through racial barriers if the black people wont let stuff go either.

| | The fact that he is of mixed ethnic background and has been elected president of the United States is of course a great historical landmark. In my opinion, race can be an experience as well as simply the color of one's skin. When many people have been unwilling to trust people because they feel uncomfortable in front of someone with different colored skin; when people of different colored skin are more likely to be arrested than others ; when people of different colored skin are less likely to get a good job this creates a barrier that makes it harder for us to benefit from people's talents and abilities. This means that the American experience is a different experience for people of different ethnicity--many people have lived in America and because of the difference in their skin color they have not been able to share the optimism other people have. But with Obama's election the American electorate became more progressive itself when they chose the more progressive candidate. I hope this means the barrier is indeed going to come down further for millions of ordinary people not just for candidates for President.
And it gives me hope that the vast majority of Americans are able to look beyond the candidate's skin color and at the very serious issues that have created the precarious situation the U. S. finds itself in as a result of the free-fall in our ecomony with the crash of the the stock market, a stagnant housing market with a growing number of americans not knowing if they will lose their house to foreclosure, and a growing number losing their jobs, out of control health care costs that threaten Americans with bankruptcy, serious illness or even totally unnecessary death, the biggest energy crisis since the 1970s, and the loss of respect for American foreign policy after the invasion of Iraq.
Peace,

CANT WAIT FOR OBAMA TO GET ASSAINATED
OBAMA more like OSAMA
How thought provoking.
By no means do I think Obama is America's godsend, but I do think he can bring many progressive ideas forth; progressive ideas which America is by in large lacking.
To say that you wish for him, or anyone else for that matter, to be killed is not only intolerant and hateful, but a clear depiction of the mindset of many who defy peace and progress.
Obama like Osama? Why, because he is colored? Because he has ideas which rival that of conservative values which have brought America to the point it is in in the first place?
I for one see no resemblance between Obama and Osama Bin Laden, but I can see them between Osama Bin Laden and yourself. Why? Because you both seem to think violence is the answer to the world's problems instead of education, understanding and challenging conventions.
I don't wish any harm upon you, but I do truly hope that one day you can come to terms with realizing that violence breeds violence. If you despise hateful minds such as Osama Bin Laden, you should try to be an example by refusing to be one yourself.~~~~~~~~~~ Democracy is three wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.

| | According to Snopes.com this "WAshingotn Post" story is a forgery. The words were taken from a conservative columnist named John Semmens and e-mailed to people as if they were Obama's words without attributing them to their real source.

And people at the Washington Post deny that theyhave any one at their newspaper named Dale Lindsborg

| | Very interesting reading coming from the Washington Post
I'm speechless!
Good to remember on voting day.
Do we want a president who doesn't 'take sides' for America ?
Perhaps there are SOME out there who are beginning to get 'the picture'. The following is a narrative taken from Sunday Morning's televised 'Meet The Press'. and the author is employed by none other than the Washington Post!! Yeah......the Washington Post of New York and Los Angeles Times fame!! Must say that I'm dually impressed..................
From Sunday's Televised 'Meet the Press' Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag.
Obama Explains National Anthem Stance
Sun, 07 Sept. 2008 11:48:04 EST, General Bill Ginn' USAF (ret.) asked Obama to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.
The General also stated to the Senator that according to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171...During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.
At the very least, 'Stand and Face It'
Senator Obama Live on Sunday states, 'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides, Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'We should consider to reinvent our National Anthem as well as to redesign our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. It's my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we as a Nation of warring people, should conduct ourselves as the nations of Islam, whereas peace prevails. Perhaps a state or period of mutual concord between our governments. When I become President, I will seek a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a sate of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts. We as a Nation have placed upon the nations of Islam an unfair injustice. My wife disrespects the Flag for many personal reasons. Together she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past, many years ago. She has her views and I have mine'. Of course now, I have found myself about to become the President of the United States and I have put aside my hatred. I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path of hope. My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country's First Family. Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America .
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you heard it right. This could possibly be our next President.
I, for one, am speechless.
Dale Lindsborg,
WashingtonPost ~~~~~~~~~~ i want. i love. i need. i breath. i lust. i trust. i cheat. i bleed.
