Taking snap shots (or "screen shots") of what you see on your screen is a piece of cake.
The first thing you need to do is locate the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard - which is usually written as "Print Scrn". Typically, it resides in the area between the left side where the alphabet keys are and the right side where the "num pad" is. Locate your arrows keys, and then look above that group of keys to find the group containing "Insert", "Home", "Page Up", "Delete", "End", "Page Down". Then look at the group of keys just above that group and the "Print Screen" key should be the first key of the three (if it's easier, just look for the first key after F12).
No, this key does not print out what's on your screen to a printer if you have one hooked up.
What it does is snaps the latest frame from the video buffer and puts it into workable memory.
If you are on Windows, then you will probably have Microsoft Paint (as this comes preinstalled on most setups).
With the "Print Screen" key, and Microsoft Paint handy, you have all you need to take screen shots of what you see on the web.
Process
1) First make sure that whatever you are seeing is what you want to be in the screen shot. Whatever appears on your screen (with the exception of the mouse cursor) will appear in the screen shot you generate, so if you don't want other people to see the porn you have running in another window, close it first.
2) Click the "Print Screen" button. Don't worry, nothing will happen - this is normal.
3) Open up Microsoft Paint.
4) Click "Edit" and then scroll down to click "Paste".
5) Now that you have pasted in the image that was stored to the buffer, all you need to do is save it! Click "File" and then "Save As...". Do not save images as "BMP"s - this is stupid. Choose a format like JPG as this is not only cross-platform, but compressed to reasonable sizes.
Congratulations, you now know how to take screen shots using Microsoft Paint!

That's why I threw the smiley in - to take focus off that.

11:54pm - November 22 2008Actually, Paint isn't technically needed. It's just one of the easiest ways that can be done using something everyone else has. I'll post another one going over Photoshop (which is nearly identical) and Linux later.

11:47pm - November 22 2008Nice thought, I dont think I would have thought to make this. Actually, I had to ask someone in class how to do it. I mean, I knew the button, I just didn't know the paint think was needed.
