Okay, so some of you probably already know by now - I did go ahead and get the iPhone.

I know a lot of you are going to think I am crazy or stupid, or that it wasn't the right choice, but I wanted to go a little into why I got it, to clarify my position a bit here.

First of all, it was like love at first sight when I played around with an iPod Touch on display at a local electronics store - the screen is beautiful and the finger gestures you use are just so incredibly intuitive and surprisingly precise.

This got me hooked.

I've been wanting to upgrade my old school Sony Clie PDA for a long time now. The thing is useful, but it can't do all that much. About all I could do with it was take notes and draw funny pictures with the stylus. It didn't have wifi, and the screen wasn't even high resolution or color for that matter.

I wasn't in the market for a phone at all to begin with. Understand that I was primarily looking for a PDA that contained software I could use everyday to make my life easier and to organize certain aspects that need structuring in my life. This is what sucked me in with the iPod Touch (or iPhone, since it's basically the same thing). The software included is great for organizing those little pieces of your life and getting everything into one collective place. This is what I need. I know a 800 USD note taking machine is kinda pricey, but that isn't the only reason.

We don't have a house phone anymore, and since Nero and I both lost our jobs recently we will need a more efficient way to keep in touch when we are working at different places. Plus, considering I have to go onto Nero's comp to use skype to get ahold of her when she is gone, there were really a lot of elements pushing me towards getting the iPhone instead of the iPod Touch.

And then there is the GPS function. Shortly before I got the phone we had a nice little trip to a local military supply shop (I wanted to get some cammys), and we'd never driven there before. We only found the location off the internet, and getting there wasn't easy. We even had to stop and ask for directions.

The excuses to go for the iPhone instead of the iPod touch started to build up.

So I said to myself, "well if the iPhone has a camera built in, then I can get that instead of the iPod Touch". Sure enough it did, and that kinda gave me enough reasons to go for that instead of the iPod Touch.

So there... You see, I did actually have reasons why I went this route. I'll admit that the screen is what sucked me in the most, and the wifi which is incredibly handy for browsing the web and reading and sending email.

One of the biggest reasons I immediately ruled out most of the competitors was out of pride. I will not pay for any Windows OS (look, I already give Microsoft enough with every 360 game I purcahse). I hate the Windows operating system and I will not pay those idiots to make it. Most of the phones today seem to be bundled with Windows Mobile. Gag me. That is enough to make me not even consider it. I admit that may be a poor judgment call or maybe even unfair or biased, but it is one of my principles and I simply will not pay a cent for any Windows Mobile crap.

So there you have it... That's why I got one. So stop talking smack about how stupid I was, or why I made the wrong decision, because I truly think that for my scenario it was the best one I could have done.

Anyhow, the only reason I made this thread was because I had done a bit of asking around on TT to different people about their thoughts on the iphone while I was considering getting it. Seems like it worked out better for you then. I know a lot of people who get them because they look cool, then get all pissed off because they freeze, or something.
