It's amazing to think of just how cheap flash memory has become today. Five years ago, if you had 512 MB storage space on your digital camera you were rich - today we'd scoff at that.
It seems that each and every day the one thing we can never get too much of too cheaply is disposable memory. Not those big ass external hard drives, but all those little memory devices that typically come equipped with a USB port.
How many of them do you have? Do you constantly buy them? How much do they run for where you live?
Over here, they are found almost everywhere and for incredibly low prices.
For instance, today I spent 99 kronor for a Kingston 4 GB USB memory stick (just around 12 dollars).
I bought another 4 GB trekstore USB memory stick for the same price several months ago (but don't actually use it after I corrupted the file partition).
I've also got a bunch of memory chips:
2 x 2 GB pro memory stick duo (the kind that the PSP uses)
32 MB pro memory stick duo
2 GB SD chip
4 GB SD chip
We probably have a bunch more here and there including all our MP3 players in the house.
Are you guys like me/us, and have lots of these little suckers laying around?
Do you use them often, and do you continuously buy them?
Oh, and if/when you buy them, do you take manufacturer and access speed into account, or do you just buy whatever is cheapest?

I bought two 16gig SD cards after christmas. On sale for 20 bucks each. I bought a 4gig SD card about 6 months ago for 22 bucks. Its crazy how cheap storage devices get. I bought a 500gig external hard drive this time last year. Now its the same price for a 1tb drive.
Yeah, I know... hard drives are also that way. Internal drives are typically cheaper than external, and about a year ago I paid like 2400 kronor (about 300 dollars) for a 1 TB internal drive. Just this Year
NeroAnima got an external 1 TB drive for 990 kronor.

12:25pm - December 12 2008I had no idea they were so cheap. I think I might get my husband a few for his PSP since he likes to listen to music on it.

9:14pm - December 11 2008Heck, even that great deal I got on the 4GB one (that I mention in this thread here) has already been beaten.
I was informed by
NeroAnima that they were having a sell on 8GB SanDisc ones this week at ICA Maxi (a grocery store about 30 mins from here). They were selling these 8GB chips for 149 kronor ($18.75 with tax) for people with a members card.
Apparently, these are even good chips that boast some "U3" technology (some encryption or protection mechanism), but this means nothing to me since it's only supported on Windows platforms (barf).
I got two of them today!

9:29am - December 06 2008Yes, I remember when I got my scandisk 1 gig stick for my psp and it was like $100. Looking at the prices now just makes so damn sad, haha.

1:50am - December 06 2008I've got 2 x 1 GB SD card, one of them I use for my camera and the other one basically only for downloaded cartoons/movies that I watch in the bedroom.
I have a USB memory stick too, it's usually in my camera bag. I think it's only like 256 MB or something cause I bought it a long time ago.
Then I also got a mp3 player that can serve as a USB memory, that one is 1 GB.
When it comes to SD cards I have a tendency to go for SanDisk, they have never failed me so far. Don't really have a preference for USB sticks cause I don't use them all that often.
