Does anyone else have favorite examples of this. I mean obviously many many items of music borrow directly from literature (a good example would a be band called Blind Guardian who compose most of their heavy metal songs to themes from Lord of the Rings) but what about music inspired by literature.

Best example of an author who goes off of music for most inspiration that I can think of would be Steven King. I recommend reading the Dark Tower series and keeping in mind that almost all of his themes are related to music. Specifically speaking "In the court of the Crimson King" describes a song by a band called King Crimson.

Anyway what are some writers you can think of who take their themes from music as opposed to the other way around.
