I am unsure if this is a pansy or a violet. Looks like a violet.
this is called a Jack in the Pulpit. They are somewhat rare around here and technically a flower.

this is a dogwood tree. I thought I had missed all of them but I found one in flower still.
a red trillium
a lighter trillium
future trillium's are the three sided leaves.
these are called may apples. Bet you can guess when they flower and bear fruit. More to come.

9:05am - May 16 2009Me too basically. My whole family lives in a small village on the countryside so they're more in contact with nature and how it works than "city folks", haha. When I went to high school (or the equivalent) I had a friend that never seen a cow before she came out to visit me.

4:24am - May 16 2009this site may help. I know a lot of other plants that can be used as dyes and paints, herbs and fruits, medicine... all sorts of things.... it gets even more apparent if you get me into Appalachia. I have been learning stuff about the outdoors since I was young.

10:37am - May 15 2009I also know of uses for most of those plants and flowers I know about. For instance the last picture there is Mayapples. The fruit can be made into a very good jam but the whole rest of the plant is poison. Good to know I think.
