When I see Canadians portrayed on the TV-shows I regularly watch they always say "eh" after everything all the time.
Since I know that there's a few Canadians on this site I figured that I would take the opportunity to ask if that's the way things really are, do you guys say "eh" after everything all the time?

Anyone else has any experience about the subject to share?

I'm Canadian myself and I can honestly say that people don't always say "eh". Although I say it sometimes, I haven't picked it up like my brother has. He says "eh" all the time, and although I don't like it, I say "huh" like many people including some of my cousins do. Its really not that common, it just depends on different people.

I noticed that Australian movies use the word eh far more then Canadians do. Not with the same accent of course but in the same context. Normally at the end of a question or statement eh.

If you come to any major city the way we speak here is about (not aboot. i near heard anyone say it that way in real life) the same as any major US city. If anything our English is fucked up because we have so many immigrants and french.

Out in the country you hear many different accents. The one they use in movies and tv is more of a central rural Canadian accent. East coast accents are far more funny and hard as fuck to understand. NFLD English is basically its own language. Cap Breton in NS has a really thick accent too. But nether are used on tv or in movies very much.

If anyone watches The trailer Park Boys you will get an idea of how rural NS people speak. Some of it can be a little exaggerated but some country folk actual talk like that. It is filmed not far from Halifax. And they use a lot of locals for actors.

Having traveled in Canada I can't say this is a huge thing. I mean sometimes it is said but not enough to be made a joke so much. The way the say about always made me giggle more.
