This is a distinction that I feel needs to be made far more often:

there is a tremendous difference between different drugs; drugs like cocaine and heroin are in a completely different league than soft drugs like Cannabis (or Magic Mushrooms for that matter)

*IF* Cannabis usage leads to harder drugs, it is the result of how we address drug policies. Put Cannabis in the hands of thugs and you're making people - who otherwise would have only been interested in getting stoned - be exposed to these people who want to push their OTHER wares. Oh, and the failed distinction between soft drugs and hard drugs results in people believing "well, if I've already done a 'drug', I see no problem in doing another 'drug'". Maybe this whole throwing of all substances into one group is doing more harm than good, when Cannabis use on its own is so incredibly safe in respect to other substances.

Yeah, but what do I know.. I mean, after all, our current drug war is going really good, huh?
