For those of you who were don't pay attention to the battle of freedom on the internet, I recently posted an article about the Secret Service (same fuckers who harassed me a couple years back) and their attempt to subpoena for Independent Media Center logs.
IMC was founded after the media in the US blatantly lied and mis-represented what happened during the WTO riots in Seattle of 1999. Since then they have strived to bring accurate and informative news across the globe in nearly every little corner of human existense. They are composed of hundreds of independent journalists who's goal is to provide the news as it happens, not as the government wants you to believe it happened.
Well, there is now an update of the situation with IMC. The FBI recently seized one or more of the hard drives from Rackspace.com (the hosting provider of IMC). This statement was also issued:
"Indymedia condemns the fact that even 24 hours after two entire servers were taken down, Indymedia is still not getting any information of the reasons for the order. By taking down 2 servers more than 20 Indymedia sites were affected in different countries globally as well as several unrelated projects. Indymedia considers this extremely invasive operation a a serious threat to the Freedom of Speech worldwide. Indymedia insists that the servers are returned"
IMC is nothing more than an open-source news portal that allows people to hear the truth around the world, no matter where you live. They have chapters in nearly every country and cover almost everything important that happens on this globe. They have done nothing more than bring the truth, but truth today is all too often censored and beaten down into submission.
After all George W. Bush stated "there 'ought to be limits to freedom" on the internet. Yes, that exact quote was Bush discussing free speech on the web after the site GWBush.com published satire and information about Bush's cocoaine abuse prior to the election. He said that there needs to be limits on free speech on the web, plain and simple. I can retrieve the sound clip and transcript once again for those of you who have not heard or seen it before.
Support IMC and bring awareness to this issue. This is injustice in it's fullest. A totally legitimate and respected provider of free media is now under attack by US authorities! This is something you will not hear or see on FOX, people. This is what really goes on in the world. The stuff they don't tell you on TV.

I've never heard of IMC until I read this article, but that completely goes against what everyone thinks we have here in the good ol' United States of America, freedom. How can people hear about this sort of thing and still preach that we're free? I know I don't read about all the crazy things our 'leaders' do, but just reading that and other things you post on the site helps educate me about what really goes on. I have to admit, I'm normally not interested in things like this and usually don't go out of my way to read articles like this. But it's on a site I go to frequently (this site) so I tend to read things and get the facts. So, thanks for that.
