Am I doing something wrong???

I just bought a wireless router today (D-Link DI-524) and I can't get the bloody PSP to connect to it. It keeps giving me an error saying:

A connection error has occurred.
The WLAN switch is not turned on.

Why the hell am I getting this? I've rechecked my configuration settings multiple times and everything is correct. I've even tried changing around the channel on my wireless router to insure there wasn't a conflict with someone elses in the area.

Does it have anything to do with the fact that I am currently charging the battery on my PSP? I have read something in the manual which mentioned something about you not being able to charge your battery when using WLAN functions. Is this the case here only in the opposite situation? I can't be sure of this or not because the manual is in Swedish and I only understood it to some extent.

I figured it would be a breeze and easy as hell to get online this thing. Do you have to use a computer as a gateway? I don't have any wireless connections on any computer(s) here; I got the router for the sole purpose of using it with my PSP.

Maybe I just need to wait 'til the battery is done charging so I can give it a test again after.. I really hope it works then cause this has been a real big dissapointment so far...

*crosses fingers* It's at 71% charged now...

Yeah I dont actually know, but alot of the guys in my berthing were really hooked on that during cruise, well, in a 150 man berthing it is easy to get 4x4 in that, and the wifi makes it so easy. It would be nice to be able to play GTA online, but I doubt it is right now, sorry buddy, hopefully in the future sometime.

If you can play Liberty Stories online then DEFINATELY sometime very soon!! That is the next game on my 'to-get' list (daxter after that).

please please tell me you can play GTA online...

you better not be getting my hopes up. I noticed that only one of my games i have now has online play (wipeout pure) and I've only raced a few test tracks on my own and I'm HORRIBLE. I need much more practice before even thinking of competing online.

hahaha, yeah I know, I feel so stupid for this.. I came across this site earlier:

going online with your psp for dummies lol

I felt really stupid for a little with this and also quite relieved that nothing was wrong.

I think it's damn confusing that they use the word "switch" as that is the same word used to describe a hub or router like device.. So when I was reading "The WLAN switch is not on" I interpretted that as my router/switch wasn't turned on which it was!

They should call the bloody switch a level or better yet, make it a button to call it a button and avoid that mixup.

And I am going to assume that you drain more battery power while the "switch" is on? Or else why the fuck do they make you have to turn it on anyhow..?

Haha, I did that too when I first got mine...

I was going to ask you, Lev, if you completely understood sweedish too, but I suppose my question has been answered.

Unless of course the WLAN was already on... in that case I dont know what to tell you, I sold my PSP.

sorry, this made me laugh a little. only because it is something so simple, but can be easily overlooked. ok, this is how you turn the WLAN switch on. look at where you put in the memory stick, right beside that on the silver part is a switch, push that up and it is now on and i've had no trouble with using WLAN while charging the battery.
