Sorry dude for the horrible delay.. I actually never even saw this thread until today.
Maybe you've already got the new card by now too...?
To be honest, you aren't asking the best person. I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Neglection or Perfect Flaw might know more about this.
I typically don't concern myself too much with graphic cards because I tend to be a console-only gamer and aside from games, super graphic cards aren't really important.
Some people spend ridiculous amounts of money on graphic cards... I know that in Sweden they sell some now for over a thousand bucks with a gig of built in video memory!!! Now, that's just fucken ridiculous, but the sad fact remains technology is ever-growing and sooner or later we will all be needing ones as good as that if we want to play contemporary games.
I like nvidia. It's somewhat of an uneducated viewpoint since I don't know everything about ATI or nVidia. The graphic card I have now is an nvidia one and it is great for me.. I can be using both my lcd monitor and hdtv at the same time with the graphic card since I have a dvi and vga connection. That's a HUUUUGE plus for me. Mine is "only" 256 physical memory, though in comparison to what my old/dead laptop has, that was only 16! I believe the ATI card that is in the server now is a 128.
Both Natio and I seem to agree that we like nvidia better for it's logo.. lmao.. I know there couldn't be anything more shallow than that, but they really do have a much nicer logo. hahaha And Natio says he gets a sexy girls voice saying "nvidia" when booting up certain games and that makes it worth it too.
See.... I told you man.. you are asking the wrong person.
My honest opinion is that both ATI and nvidia are great graphic card manufacturers. I think you'll be pleased with either of them.
Though, If I were you, I'd try to get a card that has DVI! THIS WILL BE THE NEW STANDARD WHEN VGA IS OBSOLETE! I made sure to get one with DVI because my monitor supports DVI... My graphic card is cool cause it has both vga and dvi. Also, in case you didn't know DVI is the same thing as HDMI (as found on HDTVs)... The only difference is the the connector and that HDMI can support encrypted data... I've heard that if you have an HDMI port on an HDTV you can connect a DVI cable out from ur PC into it with a DVI->HDMI adapter. I just have the TV hooked up with VGA though since my dvi is in use with the monitor.
god damn I ramble endlessly sometimes.
I apologize
