Seeing this painting was such a huge source of relief and anger for me when I spotted it. It really couldn't be more true. If it wasn't for SWEDEN, the people of
Christiania could leave in peace, but Sweden's constant political pressure on Denmark (with its zero-tolernace drug policy) is probably one of the most powerful elements that tries to "normalize" the
free city.
In case you don't get it (as you can't really see the left so well), it's a Swedish guy (based on the fact that his shirt is colored like the Swedish flag) holding booze (with the poison symbol, presumably as a protest on the level of substance safety) trampling towards what is probably something resembling the entrance sign at
Christiania.
Danes have a much more liberated and progressive attitude towards soft-drug usage, and is well known for its open Cannabis market (dealers along what's known as "Pusher Street" manage tables with hash and marijuana openly for sale).
Swedes - on the other hand - have a no-tolerance drug police, which views Cannabis as such, though embracing a lifestyle of being liquored up on a more dangerous and aggressive (yet legal) drug; alcohol.
