I collect books of various sorts on myths and legends. This doesn't necessarily imply they are all myths of a fantastical sort of course. Some are firmly rooted in our need to understand things like the fables of Aesop. In any case does anyone else here collect or share interest in fairy tales, fables, myths, and legends?

If so what sort of area? Many have a lot in common but present it a different way. Maori and Polynesian stories tend to have very little in common with Norse Pantheons and stories. That does not mean they both were not meant to teach.

So come on anyone have a favorite?

I personally keep as many stories I can get my hands on by Native American storytellers or written stories translated from Native Americans. I also have a soft spot for northern European fairy tales. I like many African and Middle Eastern myths and stories I have heard. There are volumes of it from every culture that has written down words almost. I love to read them.

I can recommend some too if anyone feels they don't have enough experience with these.

anyone here ever read books based on the African Folk Tales of the spider Anansi? Not Neil Gaiman stories either but the children's books that were out when I was young. My favorite book as a child was actually "Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock" retold by Eric Kimmel. ~~~~~~~~~~ _X/
