I don't mention this to bum rainingpoison out but to give confidence to any other of you who are still wanting to compete.
The thing is - everyone seems to have a different way of earning activity points, and for many people they can and will climb incredibly high really quickly, but they often will get to a point where they have exhausted all their resources for how they were raking up points (for example: there are only so many literature or gallery items on the site to rate). What this means is that while someone might climb really quickly (as there are numerous tricks to do this), tricks can be exhausted in some cases.
My advice is just to watch your AP as you do different things and see what works best for you. Some people can breeze through commenting (and/or rating) on lots of items quickly, while others may find uploading lots of pictures far more effective. Yes, somethings do give you AP more quickly, but many of these also have caps on how often they are dispersed (all info on this is on the AP page. For example, while you do get AP for typing a message in a chat room or chatterbox, these AP are only awarded every X minutes (again, look at the AP page because I'm not sure how I have these configured now). Additionally, some of these methods of gaining AP also have figurative caps/limits because of a finite amount of content.
Oh, and while we are at it... Recommend an award! Even if it's something you know you will get and have already earned; if you think it's award worthy, recommend it. You have nothing to lose, and I intend on adding a bunch more of awards this weekend. Recommending an award is nice, but recommending 100 awards is much nicer!
Aside from that, there are two other things that come to mind while I'm talking about AP.
First of all, I intend on periodically posting random (unobvious) tips for getting quick and easy AP. For example, click the button to update your profile each day you login and you earn 10 AP. The points are awarded for updating your profile, but in reality all you have to do is click the button (without even changing anything) and you get the points. I'm a gamer, so I don't mind helping people "cheat", since I don't consider it cheating (it's just playing by the programmed rules).
Secondly, one or two people have brought up the idea of wanting to see a basic breakdown of how people are earning their AP. If this is something that sounds interesting or helpful to you, please let me know because if interest is shown in this feature, I will get on it right away! --- "Observe - info on gaining A...tc." has been viewed times ---
