All right so I was on chat last night and I was really surprised that a lot of people who I know read a lot in the US had not heard of this site but I figured I would go ahead and let others know about it in a general way on here.
The site is called Paperbackswap and you go there to get books from their posted library of members. This only costs postage to you on any mail anyone requests from you. It works on a credits basis so for all mailed books you send you get a credit to use on any book they have in their system. It is actually pretty cost effective especially for those of us with less cash to throw around and they have over three million books posted onto their system.
Does anyone else use this site?

7:54pm - March 05 2009the average mailing rate for books is around $2.50 so that is your average cost at this site and since nothing is required to request books except credits then it is actually pretty cost effective. Especially since a lot of the books I really want I will never find at a thrift store. Now to get more credits one thing I do is go to thrift stores and buy a lot of books then post away!

12:49am - March 05 2009i have only bought books online for school but that is a need and cost efficient way to get book. I usually get my books from a thrift store. hard covers are 1 dollar and paperbacks are .50 cents.

10:33pm - March 03 2009Does anyone know a site that flat out buys old books? Since my mother and I are moving, and we pretty much have an entire storage unit devoted to books we will never read, it would be nice to find them a good home and make a little bit off them, especially since some of them are antiques and worth a little bit of money.

5:40pm - March 03 2009yeah it is only for books in the US anyway. Me and Nemo were discussing this last night and the outrageous postage in the UK but I had not heard much of Sweden's.

5:29pm - March 03 2009Since I live in Sweden it probably wouldn't be very cost effective. I don't even think a neat site like that would work over here cause of the ridiculous fees for postage over here, it would probably be cheaper to buy the book online and have it sent to you than to send use a site like that. Sadly, cause I like the idea.
