When governments fear the people there is liberty. When the people fear the government there is tyranny. -- Thomas Jefferson

Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. --John Adams

Are we on the verge of suicide? I think so. Bush,( as well as Kerry for that matter) is killing democracy. Every little restriction, every change in homeland security, every reform that he commits, is slowly and successfully stripping us from our democratic foundations. He is not at fault. He knows not that what he is doing is wrong. He simply does what he thinks will keep us safe, or happy, or comfortable. But the government is gaining too much power. There is no way the people today could have the ability to overthrow our government, which is a constitutional right. Am I right? Add too this, or defend him... whatever... I'm tired of writing...

Yes, I think you are totally right. Bush is at least better than Kerry, you can tell Kerry's a total future dictator. It's really too bad that Communism is always misused and fails because in theory it is the best form of government. Democracy isn't freedom.

Suicide? Little late for that. Democracy HAS been dead for a very long time in many ways in how the nation runs. (Can't say I care all that much tho considering I oppose democracy).

I agreed mostly with this quote:

So, I have to agree with Dejay to some degree with that comment. We have the ability to, but we don't want to. Therefore, it will not happen.

It's true, the ability is there, but the desire to isnt! It's like I said in several of the other american threads about education, jobs and so forth. Americans have the ability to change, but the majority simply are too lazy to or simply don't give a fuck enough to. Most would rather have someone else tell them how to live their live than to live it on their own.

So I agree, a revolution would not happen until the people want it. Of course it's possible, and quite likely too considering how split politically the country is. But before that happens, before a revolution is to take place and before the current leaders are to be hanging at the ends of ropes: you must want it.

As I posted before: one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter; so I don't think it would matter all that much about the brainwashed masses. As long as there there is an equal balance of those brainwashed to those who haven't been, then it would still be possible I think. Those on the side of the government would fly their flags and waves their bibles around, calling all those on the other side, radical terrorists.

In every libration; the liberator is the terrorist: unless they win, then they are the liberator. If they lose, they are just a "terrorist", but if they win and successfully manage to liberate the nation of system, then they are all of the sudden heros. God, people are so sad.

I think that you underestimate the strength of the people of this nation if you think that we don't have the power to over throw the government. cus we do but It would require an extremely overwhelming majority like at least 85% to 90% . As long as the country remains at 45% vs. 55% on decisions the politicians will rule.

We'd have the power to overthrow the government if it wasn't for everyone being 'brainwashed'. That's a very strong word to use, but I'm going to stick with it. The main reason or atleast huge reason why the politicians appeal to the people so much is because of their morals. Which most of peoples' morals come from their religion.

The fact is, people do not want to overthrow the government. The majority of people do not realize what is going on outside of THEIR life, and don't care to. To overthrow the government would require far too much thought for such simple minded creatures. Why make decisions yourself when you can have others do it for you? Shit, we don't even have to live our own lives anymore ... we can be told what to think, what to wear, what to eat, etc. What a lovely place we live in.

Ok, so what defines a Democracy, The early form was simply landowners voting for the laws that they wanted in their region (Greek). Later it was voting for representation Like the republic of Rome. This Idea of coupling Freedom with Electing representation was the creation of our founding Fathers.

If anything since the founding of this country our democracy has only increased. Before only land owning white males were allowed to vote that has now increased to any adult citizen, not based on gender or race.

I think that you underestimate the strength of the people of this nation if you think that we don't have the power to over throw the government. cus we do but It would require an extremely overwhelming majority like at least 85% to 90% . On the subject of Bush, I agree he does not know what the hell he is doing but don't you think he should. Of all the people of this country I think that the president should know the most or at least a good deal about freedom and citizen rights. I mean for God sake he uses the word enough you think he would knows what it means! So yes I do blame him and the 55% of DumbAsses that voted for him in this country.

Good Grief!
